Hot spell peaks as temperatures of up to 30c will smash the record for the hottest early May day bank Holiday!

The last few days have gradually seen temperatures on the rise with the peak of those expected later today.

The Met Office are expecting at least 28c to be reached in the London area with an outside chance 30c being reached.

The early May bank holiday was introduced in 1978 and the temperature has never topped the 28C mark.

This looks set to follow a trend this year after the Hottest April day since 1949 recorded followed by the warmest London Marathon we are now set to make it a hatrick for warm weather fans.

Many long range outputs suggest that this Summer will continue this theme with further records at risk of being surpassed.

We mentioned at the end of the last month how the models (Weather ones) Were repeatedly hinting at a warm/hot spell for the middle of April.

As you can read here, And the good news is…

The UK is now on the brink of the first Hot spell of the year.

By Hot we mean maximum temperatures ranging from 23c for Scotland to 28c for the South East, Only a touch below the all time record for April of 29.4c.

Currently this spell looks set to last around 4-5 days with nice warm weather setting in Tuesday lasting up until Saturday.

The current forecast suggests the peak will be on Friday, So Perhaps its time to get in your request for a half day?

Wondered where the summer is? Well look no further than Southern Europe where temperatures are so hot even the sea temperature… Yes the sea water temperature is up to an incredible 30 celcius!

Night temps have been breaking records in a number of places too with over 35c seen in recent nights.

And then there is the daytime temperatures which are not just boiling but are widespread across the region from Turkey through the balkans into Italy the South of France and Spain all hitting highs over 40c. locally we may even see over 45c today.

These hot temps over land have triggered some monster thunderstorms in recent days with 100’s of lightning strikes per minute, Mammoth sized hail, Tornado’s and lots and lots of monsoon like rainfall with more similar storms expected!

Forest fires have also been widespread with many evacuations ordered in various places affecting not only locals but tourists also.

And when cooler weather does move in people close to the coast will still be at risk of huge thunderstorms as the extremely high sea temperatures will likely create severe instability in the atmosphere.

So if you wondered where Summer got to there you have it. But remember if your out in the Heatwave be sure to seek shelter from the sun at regular intervals, Sunscreen a plenty and keep hydrated.

August HEATWAVE to arrive towards the end of the week with temperatures exceeding 30c!

A hot plume of tropical air from the Continent will sweep in parts of the UK towards the end of next week bringing the warmest spell of weather since July’s scorching heatwave.

As far as current output shows this hot spell FINALLY marks the start of a genuine barbecue summer, with August potentially delivering the best spell we will see.

Thermometers will start to rise this weekend with highs of 25C (77F) forecast in the south while the north nudges 21C (70F).

Parts of the southeast are likely to have breached the 30C (86F) mark by the end of Sunday next weekend with the rest of the country basking in the mid 20Cs.

It will turn dry and very hot and sunny before an extreme heatwave returns with searing heat

The start of next week will see a brief cooler blip but the mercury will rocket again by next weekend.

If the Global Forecast System predictions are correct then the potential is there for at least 10 HOT days in the south of the country with temperatures exceeding 25-27c daily.

However at such range reliability is low and this is echoed by the ECM Weather forecasting model that shows only 3-4 days of hot conditions.

All we know is its good to see this weather being shown in the charts once again so dont put the sunscreen away just yet!
